SS-31 Reconstitution Calculator

For in vitro research use only · Not medical advice

Preset to a 10 mg SS-31 vial in 2 mL of diluent. A 10 mg vial in 2 mL yields 5 mg/mL. Use low-bind labware at low working concentrations.

A 10 mg SS-31 vial reconstituted with 2 mL gives 5 mg/mL. Measuring 0.100 mL gives 500 mcg per portion — about 20 portions from the vial.

Choosing a diluent for SS-31

Freely water-soluble owing to its cationic character; dissolves quickly and cleanly. Use low-bind labware, since the strong positive charge promotes adsorption to surfaces.

PrimaryBacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol)
Alternative 1Sterile water (USP grade)
Alternative 2Phosphate-buffered saline

Handling notes for SS-31

  • Reach room temperature before opening.
  • Use low-bind labware and buffers at low working concentrations to limit adsorption of the cationic peptide.
  • Aliquot and refrigerate.

After reconstitution

StorageRefrigerate at 2-8 °C.
Working windowCommonly worked with for 3-4 weeks at 2-8 °C.
Freeze–thawTolerant; the unnatural residues resist degradation. Aliquot as standard practice.
